Join us for a pre-concert talk 45 minutes before curtain.
Join us as the Choral Arts choirs present Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Mass in G Minor and Gustav Holst’s Hymns from the Rig Veda. Blending traditional liturgical elements with his unique harmonic language, Vaughan Williams described his a cappella mass as an expression of Christian faith and an exploration of the spiritual human experience. Holst’s faith journey was more eclectic, including a long fascination and study of Sanskrit and Indian philosophy. In his Hymns, Holst combines the lyricism, harmonies, and innovative textures for which he is known with the text and energy of the Indian Rig Veda.
Accompanying these two pillars of British repertoire, the Choral Arts choirs offer a range of classical and popular selections from composers such as Thomas Tallis, William Byrd, Edward Elgar, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Ken Burton, Bob Chilcott, Cecilia McDowell, and Jacob Collier.
