First rehearsal auspicious!

The 33rd season of Choral Arts Ensemble is officially underway, now that we have met and rehearsed this past Tuesday evening. The singers did not betray many signs of summer rustiness, and lovely sounds are already emerging.

This first concert, SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER, will celebrate the special courage required to take a principled stand in the face of the prevailing authority.

With the help of Great River Shakespeare Festival actors, we will be inspired by the stories of Sir Thomas More, Martin Luther King, Jr., Susan B Anthony, Gandhi, Wilfred Owen, Fannie Lou Hamer, and others.

We'll sing Benjamin Britten's powerful retelling of Jesus' subversive parable of the Good Samaritan, Cantata Misericordium (Cantata of Mercy).

We will collaborate with a wonderful chamber orchestra, along with tremendously talented soloists, Alan Dunbar and Roy Heilman.

So pencil in the date, 7:30 pm on Saturday, October 21 at Zumbro Lutheran in Rochester, or 3 pm on Sunday, October 22 at Central Lutheran in Winona. It will be a joy to share this music and inspiration with you!
