Let Love Come

Our 40th Season

Welcome to Choral Arts’ 40th Anniversary Season:  Let Love Come.  Each concert of this milestone season centers around specific relationships in our lives - starting with our relationship with ourselves as children and radiating outward to the ways in which we foster larger communities.

New this season is the addition of the Choral Arts Treble Singers, a group of 20 skilled, high-voice singers who will appear in all concerts with the mixed Ensemble Singers. Comprised of individuals with excellent vocal ability, musicianship, and experience, these singers will move you with the artistry and power that only a like-voiced women’s ensemble can bring.

The Treble Singers will be joined by the 58 new and returning voices of the Choral Arts Ensemble Singers. They will continue to enrich and inspire you with the powerful and beautiful performances you’ve come to expect.

Through the eyes of a child, life is a series of fresh and surprising experiences. Each day brings new fears and new wonders. The giggling excitement of the first carnival ride. The hurt of a skinned knee, the safety of a caregiver’s hug. Fear of the dark. Adventure. Curiosity. Self-discovery. Wholehearted, pure love.

To open our 40th Season the choirs offer an expansive program reflecting on childhood and identity. We have so much to learn from a child’s perspective, from our own childhoods. What do you remember?

Featuring the debut of the Choral Arts Treble Singers with Choral Arts Ensemble on works by Rheinberger, Whitacre, Goldberg, Shara Nova, Alan/Cracauer, von Kampen, Absil, Hong & Quanfu/arr. Choi, Sariola Soila, Melissa Dunphy, Mia Makaroff, Carnahan/Murphy, Tormis, Smiley, Betinis, Horn/Deignan, Britten, and more.

“The most important reason to treat people well is not what you’ll get in return. It’s who you hope to become. Kindness is not about reciprocity or karma, it’s about character. Civility doesn’t need to be justified with consequences. Respecting others is the right thing to do.”

Popular psychologist Adam Grant quickly explains why he is polite with servers, offering an everyday take with a timeless message. Writers, thinkers, and philosophers across history and cultures note the importance of treating strangers with respect. And we never know – a single, unexpected interaction with a stranger could lead to a friendship. Choral Arts’ midwinter concert offers repertoire centering on how we relate to another – a stranger on the street, an acquaintance, a friend.

Featuring works by Theofanidis, Pärt, Androzzo/Carter, Runestad, Take 6, Tracy Wong, säje, Lassus, MacMillan, Reena Esmail, Deke Sharon, Lang, Hogan, Caroline Shaw, Brahms, and more.

We conclude our 40th season with “Let Love Come,” a reflection on the value of community, fellowship, and belonging, which goes beyond the individual and radiates outward from our families and close relationships. As composer-poet Amy Beth Kirsten writes, “Let love come in whatever way it will.” A strong spirit of love has been present in Choral Arts Ensemble, producing inspiring music, close friendships, and meaningful civic impact throughout our history.

Honoring the past and looking forward to a bright future, we are excited to present two premiere commissions by Shruthi Rajasekar and Alex Berko.
