If you ask any of our singers, the experiences they had as young choristers, often in junior or senior high school, were key to their continued involvement in choirs such as Choral Arts Ensemble. In December we proudly premiered the first carol of our new commissioning project, Lloyd Ketterling Christmas Carol, which is a series supported by friends, family and former students of Lloyd Ketterling in honor of his many years as a public school choir director (among other things). Carrying on that fine tradition and responsibility as middle and high school choir directors are these CAE members:
- Alto Korrie Johnson, Kellogg Middle School and Lincoln K-8 Choice School
- Tenor Nick Johnson, Stewartville High School
- Bass David Phelps, Lourdes High School
- Tenor Nate Raabe, Chatfield Public Schools
- Soprano Robin Scheu, Lanesboro Public Schools
- Bass Aaron Schumacher, Zumbrota-Mazeppa Middle School
- Bass and Assistant Conductor Erik Zinter, Faribault High School
Not in the choir department, but also actively involved mentoring our youth are school teachers Todd David (bass), high school math; Andrew Johnsrud (tenor), high school social studies; Jeff Lunde (tenor), high school social studies; Stephanie Schumacher (soprano), middle school band; and Mike Thompson (bass), high school German.
There are many fortunate students in SE Minnesota who are in class with these fine instructors.

No, we are not really traveling to Europe, but it'll feel like we are there as we share music of various European countries.
First we'll be in Tudor England (we are time travelers as well), singing works by William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons, and Thomas Tomkins. From there we cross the North Sea to Scandinavia to be immersed in the music of Knut Nystedt, Egil Hovland (both from Norway) and Waldemar Ahlen of Sweden.
Back to the continent to France through the Quatre Motets of Maurice Durufle' and then we jump east to Germany to sing songs of Schubert, Brahms, and Schumann. Since the concert falls on the weekend of St. Patrick's Day, we'll finish up once again in the British Isles as we enjoy folk songs of Ireland that will include Danny Boy, The Last Rose of Summer and The Little Beggarman.
We hope you'll be a part of this European Excursion, either Saturday evening March 17 or Sunday afternoon March 18 at Zumbro Lutheran Church. Tickets are available on the website or by contacting the office.
