May 11, 2008, marks the 150th anniversary of Minnesota’s statehood, and CAE will celebrate that on Saturday, May 10, at Lourdes Chapel, Assisi Heights, with Hail, Minnesota!, a program featuring selections from Minnesota’s wealth of choral composers.  From F. Melius Christiansen to Paul J. Christiansen, Leland Sateren to René Clausen, Dominick Argento to Stephen Paulus, and many others,  the ensemble will explore our state’s rich choral tradition.

As prelude to this historic happening, earlier concerts of the season have featured premieres of CAE commissions from Minnesota composers Eric William Barnum and David Dickau, and the trend continues with Choral Arts Ensemble’s third and fourth premieres of 2007-2008.  CAE commissioned Minnesota native Stephen Chatman, who has written a piece which celebrates the power of music, Musica Dei Donum.  CAE is also one of six choirs in the state participating in the American Composers Forum project Minnesota Voices, and as such, has partnered with ACF to commission Minneapolitan J. David Moore to write a piece for this concert and for presentation at the Minnesota State Fair in August, 2008.

Hail, Minnesota! is made possible in part with funds provided by the State of Minnesota through the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission's Grants Program.

Concert sponsors RSM McGladrey; Sargent's Gardens; and Dunlap & Seeger
